Thank you for your membership interest in the White Plains Ski Club.
The White Plains Ski Club, Inc. of New York (WPSC), is a non-profit corporation founded in 1953 in White Plains, NY as a skiing and outdoor sports club. Our Lodge was built in 1967 near the base of Mad River Glen Ski Area (MRG) in Waitsfield, Vermont. Our main member activity is winter skiing, and the lodge is available to members and guests throughout the year as an outdoor activity base. We have both single and married members, some with children, some without. We have newer members and well-established members. Despite our club’s name, our membership is spread throughout NY, MA, CT, NJ, NH and beyond.
The WPSC has limited availability for new “provisional” members and is seeking members who are pleasant, assimilate, actively participate, volunteer, and adhere to WPSC Governance Documents, Lodge Rules, and Food Policy (Rules). There is a minimum two-season provisional period requirement for all members to make sure you are the right fit. The WPSC is not looking for members whose only concern is economical lodging or are local or weekend area employees. We have found that this does not work for our family club. With lifts a five-minute walk from our lodge, WPSC’s focus is primarily MRG! Members in “good standing” are expected to pay annual dues and fees promptly, attend at least two Club meetings a season, comply with the Rules, perform a work weekend, and volunteer on a regular basis toward the operation of the Club. Every member, 12-years of age old and over, and guests, are assigned lodge chores. All personal items are to be kept in your room, except skis, boots, and poles that are only allowed in the gear room.
“Givers” do better than “Takers”, as WPSC members maintain the lodge and do all chores. The WPSC, is in essence a “family” whose members enjoy each other’s company and to assure that, the WPSC is careful who we accept as members. If you are pleasant, play by the rules, do your part and more, you’ll likely be invited to be a member, and you’ll have year-round WPSC lodge access to Vermont’s Mad River Valley.
WPSC Provisional Membership Process
All email inquiries will be responded to in the fall.
You will receive an application via email, along with the WPSC Lodge Rules and Food Policy. The application fee is $50.00, payable by Zelle. The fee will be refunded if the WPSC does not move forward with your application or retained if you are invited to become a Provisional Member.
The Board will consider applications between September and December and may limit the number of provisional memberships accepted each season. The Membership Committee will notify you by email of the Board’s decision.
If your application remains under consideration, the Membership Committee will arrange a phone or internet meeting to discuss the WPSC and answer any questions. Following the meeting, the Board will decide whether to invite you to become a Provisional Member.
Provisional Membership
All fees and dues must be paid before booking a Lodge stay. A minimum two-season provisional period is required.
During this provisional time, lodge stays are allowed only when a regular member is present.
Serving as a WPSC Trip Leader is required and may be completed during Provisional Season 2. Attend monthly membership Zoom meetings throughout the season.
At the end of the second season, the Board may invite you to become a member, require an additional provisional year, or not.
The Provisional Period begins December 1 each season when WPSC dues and fees are due.
